COSMETOLOGY COURSE OUTLINE

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The 1250-hour cosmetology course includes professional instruction in academic studies as well as practical and clinic. Teaching methods may include lecture, demonstrations, and visual aids. This course prepares the student to take and pass the license exam of the PA State Board of Cosmetology. You will learn all aspects of cosmetology, hair, skin and nails.You will transition from mannequins to clients while the program builds confidence and technical ability.




EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:

  2. To inspire our students to build from the basics, be individuals, and bring out their talent and artistic abilities in their work.
  3. Project a positive attitude and self confidence to facilitate effective communication skills to provide a valuable service.
  4. To prepare students to successfully pass PA State Board Examinations, obtain their license as an entry level Cosmetologist or related career field.

COURSE HOURS: 1250

ACADEMIC: 385

You will learn subject matter to coordinate to your practical application. The subject matter includes, professional image, safety and sanitation, bacteriology, anatomy & physiology, chemistry, wet and thermal Styling, chemical processing including perms, straightening, relaxing of all types of hair, cutting, principles of color theory, temporary hair removal, skin care & make-up, manicuring, and salon management.

  1. STERILIZATION AND HYGIENE-40 HOURS
    You will learn methods of proper professional image, equipment sterilization, and health and safety in practical salon operations.
  2. SCALP AND HAIR TREATMENTS-50 HOURS
    You will perform different scalp manipulations and techniques. Learn to recognize scalp and hair disorders commonly seen in a salon and proper treatment.
  3. HAMPOO AND RINSES-30 HOURS
    You will learn the proper technique of shampooing and scalp massage. You will identify with ingredients of product and learn proper selections for various hair types.
  4. HAIR STYLING-170 HOURS
    You will the fundamentals of styling and the use of styling aids for all types of hair. This includes roller sets, thermal and wet styling, blow drying, up-do design, and various types of hair extensions.
  5. HAIR CUTTING- 100 HOURS
    Understand how to analyze the hair for many techniques used in wet and dry cutting. This includes using different types of shears, razors, and clippers. Using sectioning techniques, learning the various guides and angles to get the desired style, and leaning to identify hairstyles that compliment various face shapes.
  6. HAIR COLORING- 105 HOURS
    Understand consultation and safety precautions for coloring procedures. You will learn color formulation technology, mixology, bleaching, highlights, and low lighting techniques, and color correction. You will work with permanent and demi- permanent colors.
  7. CHEMICAL PROCESSING-110 HOURS
    You will learn about all aspect of chemical hair aerating procedures and chemistry of products and the effects on the hair. You will gain knowledge about permanent waving, chemical straightening, wraps and relaxing for all types of hair.
  8. MANICURING-200 HOURS
    You will learn the basic manicure and pedicure procedures. You will also learn artificial nail application, nail repair, and nail artistry.
  9. SKINCARE & MAKE-UP-50 HOURS
    You will learn client consultation and skin analysis. Learn procedures for various types of facial applications, temporary hair removal, makeup application and corrective make-up.
  10. STATE LAW AND REGULATIONS- 10 HOURS You will review PA State laws and participate in mock state board testing to prepare you for licensure exams.

REQUIRED LEVEL OF ACHEIVEMENT:

Students must successfully complete 300 hours before assigned clinical work and maintain at least a 75% in all aspects of the course.

ACADEMIC:

Evaluations are done in the following manner: written tests of each chapter, and oral quizzes on each chapter. The Student must maintain a 75% grade point average in all aspects of the course. If the requirements are not met, a student SAP review is performed.

MANICURING COURSE OUTLINE

COURSE DISCTIPTION:

The Manicuring Course consists of 300-hour program. This course includes professional instruction in academics, practical and clinic. Teaching methods may include lecture, demonstrations, and visual aids. The study of manicuring includes care of nails, hands, and feet.

Upon successfully mastering the basic manicure set-up, practical tasks and academics in basic manicuring, (approximately 35 hours) each student will gain experience on the salon like clinic. You will perform many services on the public while supervised by your licensed instructors. Evaluations are on an individual basis for sanitary measures, performance, and professionalism.



EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:

  1. To prepare students in all academic and practical aspects of the course.

  3. To educate students in building strong client relationships, customer service, and business skills needed to be successful in this field.

COURSE HOURS: 300

Academic – 100 hours

You will learn the academics behind the services. You will be educated in safety and sanitation, sciences, basic and advanced manicure and pedicure techniques, massage techniques, anatomy and physiology of the hands, feet and nails, artificial nail application including nail tips, acrylic, gels, and nail wraps, and nail artistry.

Clinic-60 hours

Teachers will base evaluations on performance before, during, and after a client service. You will be evaluated on providing a service that is safe and sanitary for the client, professionalism, attitude, and building client relationships.

Practical-

MANICURING & PEDICURING: 45 hours
You will learn safety and sanitation, basic and advanced manicure/pedicure set up and procedure, and proper use of products and instrumentation.

AARTIFICIAL NAIL APPLICATION: 65 hours
Learn the intricate technique of acrylic nail applications, sculpture nails, chemistry and safety precautions for artificial nail enhancements. A Nail tip application and filing techniques, Gel nail procedure, and nail wraps.

NAIL ARTISTRY: 10 hours
You will practice the latest trends in Nail art using many different creative designs, products, materials, and airbrushing.

STATE LAW AND PROCEDURES: 20 hours
You will study the PA state laws of cosmetology. We will provide you with instruction and assessment in both academic and practical during Mock State Board testing and reviews.

INSTRUCTORS COURSE OUTLINE

COURSE DISCRIPTION

The Instructors course is 500 hours. Each student must hold a state license. We will train licensed cosmetologist, estheticians, manicurists, and massage therapists in the individual field of teaching. We train you to teach all phases of coursework including theory, practical, and clinic. You will receive instruction in course preparation, evaluation, various teaching methods, use of teaching aids, lesson planning, public speaking, and class lecture skills. We will prepare you for state board examination and State Laws.

  2. To educate students on professional conduct and improve interpersonal skills.

ACADEMIC-300 hours

TEACHING TECHNIQUES
You will learn various teaching methods that include lesson planning and design, lesson delivery, assessment of learning performance, classroom management, student motivation, and the ability to recognize student learning process and development.

PRACTICAL/CLINIC – STUDENT TEACHING-100 hours

APPLICATION OF TEACHING METHODS IN PRACTICAL SETTING:
Under the onsite supervision of a licensed instructor you will learn to prepare and organize the subject matter presented. Learn present subject matter though application of various methods (lecture, demonstration, testing and assignments). Learn how to correlate theoretical with practical application. Learn planning, analysis and implementation. Also, you will learn classroom management and control.

APPLICATION OF TEACHING METHODS IN CLINICAL SETTING:
Under the onsite supervision of a licensed instructor, you will learn basic clinic operations, client safety, and sanitation. You will learn the responsibly of the reception desk, dispensary, as well has conducting student/client introduction. You will learn the skills to demonstrate effective instruction for results oriented learning.

BUSINESS AND SALON MANAGEMENT PRACTICES: 75 hours

Learn business methods that include inventory, record keeping, and salon management.

PROFESSION PRACTICES: 25 hours

Learn importance of Professional Image and Ethics. Practice state law reviews and mock state board testing.

ESTHETICAN COURSE OUTLINE

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The Esthetician course consists of 325 hours. This course includes professional instruction in academic, practical, and clinical studies. Teaching methods may include lecture, demonstrations, and visual aids. We will teach you skin analysis, many facial procedures, machine facials, massage techniques, chemical exfoliation, microdermabrasion, face and body temporary hair removal, body treatments, and make-up application. We will prepare you for the PA state Board licensure exam.





EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:

  1. To prepare students in all academic and practical aspects of the course

ACADEMIC 100 HOURS

You will learn the academics behind skin analysis and client consultation and professionalism. You will learn sanitation and disinfection methods, Anatomy Physiology and Histology of the skin, Basic Chemistry, Product knowledge, Basic Facial Theory and machines, Hair Removal, Chemical exfoliation and microdermabrasion, Make-up application, and Salon Business and Retail.

PRACTICAL AND CLINIC:

1. FACIAL TREATMENTS: 70 HOURS
Learn proper set up and client draping. You will lean to perform manual, chemical, and electronic facial techniques. Learn methods of, cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, facial massage techniques, mask application, toning and moisturizing. Learn to prescribe facials to benefit client needs with hot stone facials, blemish control facials, hydration facials, and anti-aging

2. SKIN ANALYSIS: 30 HOURS
Learn to recognize various skin types, using your senses, as well as utilizing magnification and the Woods Lamp. Learn to recognize contraindications for procedures and when to refer to a physician.

3. TEMPORARY HAIR REMOVAL: 10 HOURS
In this course, you will learn waxing techniques for face and body. Learn proper safety and sanitation precautions and to recognize contraindications for services.

4. MAKE UP APPLICATION: 50 HOURS
You will learn the artistic and creativity of make up application. You will gain knowledge in product ingredients and proper use of products. You will learn day and evening make-up application, camouflage, and corrective make-up techniques all while being conscious of safety sanitation and infectious control.

5. BODY TREATMENTS: 10 HOURS
Learn various treatments including, mud, herbal, essential oil salt and sugar glow

6. SKIN EXFOLIATION TECHNIQUES: 15 HOURS
We will teach you the advance methods of chemical peels and microdermabrasion. These will include AHA’S, BHA’S, Jessner’s solution, herbal peels, and active enzymes. Learn proper application and to recognize contraindications for the procedures

7. PROFESSIONAL PRACTICES: 40 HOURS
You will learn salon/spa business and ethics. You will learn PA State laws and participate in Mock State Board Exams in order to prepare to take the PA State Board Exam
